Car respraying or being in a position to afford the costs of a quality car or vehicle paint job is a wonderful feeling. The process of respraying a damaged or cracked bumper and watching the different steps in the repair and respraying process is very interesting as well as artistic.
The probability of waking up one morning and being shocked by damage to ones car or vehicle is far greater in a large town or city compared to a rural area. Regardless it’s a dreaded, horrible situation and can be very costly.
A scuffed/scratched or dented door, panel or bumper is really painful to witness and deal with as a vehicle owner/motorist. Worse is the costs associated with having to repair it yourself.
The main types of paints are:
Solid Paint – Most cars and vehicles have been painted using a solid paint. Most common solid paints are; black, white, blue, red. Applied by the manufacturer followed by coats of lacquer to protect the paint from outside conditions.
Metallic Paint – Similar to solid paint with the addition of metallic tint. Nowadays there are so many metallic car paint combinations available for car and vehicle respraying. Most common are; silver/grey, black, gold.
Pearlescent Paint – Pearl paint or also referred to as MICA involves adding either ceramic crystals or mica to a solid paint which gives the paint its sparkling – two tone finish. The process of applying the paint to create the extraordinary finish is far more time consuming and requires more paint to be applied to car or vehicle bodywork. Process usually begins by applying a base coat. The most common base coat used is white however it is best that silver, gold, orange, and violet are the colours most suited to being applied if white is the base coat.
As in most things, preparation is key. If respraying a vehicle, importantly that is no more than ten years whereby the bodywork and paintwork is in okay to good condition then it is safer, preferred and cheaper too to respray the bodywork of car/vehicle without paint stripping existing paint. If paintwork, bodywork is quite poorly and/or if the vehicle had previously been resprayed and in conditions unknown it safer to pay more and have the paint(s) removed completely, bodywork refurbished where necessary before respraying/painting vehicle.
It is far better to ensure that your vehicle/car is prepped and painted in the right environment, under the correct conditions! Painting and respraying inside a spray booth improves overall paint job, refinishing and paint consistency due to it being inside a confined, temperature controlled air filtered vacuum. Solvents will evaporate through the air filtration system releasing less contaminates in to the atmosphere too!
Result, is that you will receive a far superior quality paint and bodywork finish.
With what governments are calling a pandemic still prevalent and affecting everyone’s lives, so much uncertainty in the job market – the economy generally more people are holding on to their existing cars and investing money into full vehicle refurbishment and car respraying.
During 2020 most of us had more time at home, during the many lock downs, to spend doing DIY jobs. For those handy with their hands/tools and those not so creative or too busy car respraying, van respraying – vehicle qpaint/bodywork jobs increased exponentially!
